Grenfell Tower Fire (London, England) – The Use of ACM and Code Requirements

Laminators Incorporated wants to send our sincerest condolences to all involved in the recent tragedy of the fire located at the Grenfell Tower residential apartment building on June 14, 2017 in London, England.  As responsible members of the ACM community, our due diligence relies profoundly on assisting and educating design professionals when specifying ACM panels and architectural installation systems for their projects.

The United States enforces numerous national and international building and safety codes to ensure safe building design and construction.  The main purpose of building codes is to protect the public health, safety and general welfare related to the construction and occupancy of buildings.  By law, these buildings and structures, as well as various groups including architects, general contractors, engineers, designers, etc. must conform to the codes in order to obtain planning and construction authorization.

In light of the Grenfell Tower fire, we don’t anticipate many drastic changes related to the building and safety codes required in the United States; however, we do foresee emphasis on the implementation and enforcement of these codes.  With Laminators Incorporated being one of the primary ACM manufacturers in the United States we understand the importance of meeting and enforcing building and safety codes.  Our highly-skilled engineering department regularly tests and inspects all of our ACM products and proprietary installation methods ensuring they are code compliant — including, but not limited to NFPA 285, ASTM E84, Miami-Dade County Product Control, Florida Product Approval, etc.

Laminators Inc. is focused on manufacturing high quality ACM panels that meet these stringent performance levels and provide design professionals and building owners the confidence that our cladding and install systems will meet the International Building Code (IBC) requirements.  For questions or concerns regarding the use of ACM panels and/or specifying ACM in your projects, or for more information on our testing results, please contact our tech support at 800.523.2347 or info@laminatorsinc.com.
