Proposition 65

What is California Proposition 65?

In 1986, Proposition 65, the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act, was enacted to protect California citizens and the State’s drinking water sources from chemicals known to cause cancer, birth defects or other reproductive harm, and to inform citizens about exposures to such chemicals.

Proposition 65 requires the Governor to revise and republish a list of chemicals known to the state to cause cancer or other reproductive toxicity on an annual basis.

Why is Laminators Incorporated mentioning this?

In December 2009, wood dust was added to the California Proposition 65 list as a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. Wood products will expose individuals to wood dust when they are drilled, sawed, sanded, machined, or otherwise handled in a manner that will produce wood dust.

As a result, Laminators Incorporated would like to make our customers that are in California or doing business in California aware of the potential hazard of wood dust as it relates to our Omega SignBoard®, LusterBoard®, SignPly®, Omega FoamPly® and Omega-Ply® products.

Per the requirements of Proposition 65, any purchasers of lumber or wood products should be aware of the following warning, as well as make this warning available at retail or point of sale locations where lumber and wood products are sold:

WARNING: Drilling, sawing, sanding or machining wood products can expose you to wood dust, a substance known to the State of California to cause cancer. Avoid inhaling wood dust or use a dust mask or other safeguards for personal protection.
